‘Negative’ intensity patches in angular variations of CMB as a probe of the period of reionization

چکیده
The observational tests for the period of reionization of the universe are discussed. We show that this period can be observed as negative intensity patches of the CMB radiation with the amplitude δT/T ∼ 10 and the angular sizes θT ∼10 angular seconds in range of the wavelength 0.1 cm≤ λ ≤1 cm. The expected number density and frequency dependence of the amplitude permit to recognize this effect and to discriminate it from the noise. This method applied to the small scale variations of CMB temperature complements well the traditional spectral approach. The number density and the amplitude of observed ’negative’ intensity patches depend upon the redshift of reionization that allow to estimate roughly this redshift. The ionized bubbles formed just before the period of reionization could also be seen as the highest peaks. The expected results are sensitive to the Jeans scale at the period of reionization, to the small scale shape of the primordial power spectrum and to the mass of dark matter particles.

Secondary CMB anisotropies in a universe reionized in patches
In a universe reionized in patches, the Doppler effect from Thomson scattering off free electrons generates secondary cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. For a simple model with small patches and late reionization, we analytically calculate the anisotropy power spectrum. Patchy reionization can, in principle, be the main source of anisotropies on arcminute scales. On larger angular ...

The free-electron population during the reionized epoch rescatters the cosmic microwave background ~CMB! temperature quadrupole and generates a now well-known polarization signal at large angular scales. While this contribution has been detected in the temperature-polarization cross power spectrum measured with Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe data, due to the large cosmic variance associat...
متن کاملThe Impact of Inhomogeneous Reionization on Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy
It is likely that the reionization of the Universe did not occur homogeneously. Using a model that associates ionized patches with overdense regions, we find that the resulting cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy power spectrum peaks at angular scales corresponding to the extent of the ionized regions, and has a width that reflects the correlations between them. There is considerable u...
متن کاملA Search for X-ray Reionization Signatures from Cross-correlation of Wmap and Rosat Rass Data
We present an observational search for the possible correlation between cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization map and soft X-ray background (SXRB) based on the ROSAT All-sky Survey (RASS) archive and WMAP fiveyear observations. This is motivated by the fact that some of the CMB polarization may arise from the scattering of CMB photons due to the free electrons generated by X-ray heatin...

The WMAP first year detection of a high redshift reionization through its imprints on CMB anisotropy T and TE mode angular power spectra calls for a better comprehension of the universe ionization and thermal history after the standard recombination. Different reionization mechanisms predict different signatures in the CMB, both in temperature and polarization anisotropies and in spectral disto...
